CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide a palliative care approach, as well as end-of-life care, for people with life-limiting illness and those within the normal aging process.
This Learner Guide explains how to apply the principals and aims of a palliative approach when supporting people. It outlines how to respect the person’s preferences for quality-of-life choices and how to follow the person’s advance care directives in their individualised plan. It then describes how to respond to signs of pain and other symptoms, as well as how to follow end-of-life care strategies. Lastly, it explains how to manage emotional responses and ethical issues.
The learning content builds knowledge and understanding by using: • Step-by-step instructions on responding to changes in the person’s care needs and circumstances • Straightforward explanations on providing emotional support • Learning Checkpoints at the end of each topic to reinforce a palliative care approach that supports the person’s needs and preferences • A range of examples and case studies that illustrate how carers manage personal responses to death and dying
