CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues describes the skills and knowledge required to establish relationships, clarify needs and then work collaboratively with people who are living with mental health issues.
This Learner Guide describes how to establish respectful relationships with and determine the needs of people with mental health issues. The content then explains how to collaborate with them to meet their aspirations and needs in ways that uphold their rights.
The learning content builds knowledge and understanding by using: • Step-by-step instructions on using communication techniques to develop trust, respect, hope and self-direction • Straightforward explanations of how to provide and adapt services to meet particular needs • Learning Checkpoints at the end of each topic to build knowledge of the values and principles of the mental health sector • A range of examples and case studies that demonstrate how to work with people who have mental health issues in ways that support their individual empowerment and recovery
