CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
This Learner Guide explains how to identify cultural bias and how to work within identified personal limitations. It then outlines how to communicate effectively with diverse people, which includes deploying practices that foster inclusion and overcome language barriers. Finally, the material explains how to promote understanding across diverse groups and resolve difficulties with sensitivity.
The learning content builds knowledge and understanding by using: • Step-by-step instructions on applying a systematic methodology for reflecting on diversity • Straightforward explanations of how to recognise the needs of diverse people and identify situations where misunderstandings may arise • Learning Checkpoints at the end of each topic to build awareness of cultural and social diversity • A range of examples and case studies that illustrate how carers apply this awareness in their work practice
