CHCCCS024 Support individuals with autism spectrum disorder describes the skills and knowledge required to work with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with regard for their needs and within the context of support work. This unit applies to workers in a range of community services contexts who are responsible for their own outputs and are required to use some discretion and judgement. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and state/territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
This Learner guide is designed for community services workers and covers the planning and implementation of support activities for people with autism. It gives a comprehensive overview of current thinking on autism spectrum disorder and its diagnosis. It takes an evidence-based approach and covers: - Planning intervention and support activities - Providing solutions in response to individual needs - Working in accordance with the highest standards of professional conduct
The workplace examples in the Learner guide demonstrate many different types of individual needs to build the learner’s comprehension of the complexities of ASD.
