CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide person-centred care and support to people living with dementia. It involves following an established individualised plan.
This Learner Guide explains the fundamentals of providing support to someone living with dementia, which involves communicating with them and their family or carer and being alert to any signs of abuse that would require reporting. It covers supportive communication strategies, both verbal and non-verbal, and then explains how to encourage the person’s participation in meaningful activities. Next, the material outlines how to implement a strengths-based approach in meeting their needs. Finally, it covers how to complete, maintain and store documentation.
The learning content builds knowledge and understanding by using: • Step-by-step instructions for supporting individuals living with dementia using person-centered and strengths-based approaches • Straightforward explanations of how to follow an individualised plan • Learning Checkpoints at the end of each topic to reinforce key concepts and strategies • A range of examples and case studies that illustrate how person-centered care is applied in real life settings
