Changes to the Current Standards for RTOs
Changes to the Current Standards for RTOs
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) has announced that Skills Ministers have collectively endorsed the initiation of essential modifications to the current Standards. The modifications are set to be implemented in March 2024, and preclude the broader revisions to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) due for implementation in January 2025.
Strategic Early Changes
These early adjustments are strategically conceived to address existing challenges within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) workforce. Aspire believes these will provide immediate, tangible benefits to the sector once rolled out.
Key Areas of Modification
The changes, garnering substantial sector support from prior consultations, are outlined below:
- reflecting new and updated training products from the updated Training and Education (TAE) Training Package
- enabling people who hold an education degree to be engaged as trainers and/or assessors
- enabling people actively working towards the Certificate IV or Diploma from the TAE Training Package to deliver training and contribute to assessment under supervision
- enabling broader use of industry experts
- aligning with recent changes to the Fit and Proper Person Requirements
- making minor clarifications and modifications (i.e. terminology amendments).
Striving for Operational Seamlessness
It is imperative to underscore that these changes are meticulously crafted to impose minimal operational burden on Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), ensuring a seamless transition and heightened operational efficacy.
Aspire seeks to collectively champion these advancements, which are poised to enhance the caliber of education and training, fortify the VET workforce, and allow trainers and assessors to focus on what they do best: deliver world class training that powers Australia’s economy into the future.
