Aspire Foundation Grant: Ross House Association
Who is Ross House Association?
Ross House Association (RHA) is a community in motion, offering an affordable, centrally accessible office space where passionate individuals can gather, work and grow together. Since 1987, RHA has been one the only self-managed, community-owned, not-for-profit buildings in Melbourne. Many RHA members represent some of Australia’s most marginalised communities. RHA works to eliminate disadvantages and barriers, ensuring equal access and opportunities for all. They are also committed to sustainable practices, considering the environmental impact at every stage of their operation.
Aspire Foundation
At the core of the Aspire Foundation’s mission is the belief that education transforms lives. Our passion lies in supporting community members, especially those from marginalised groups, in achieving their educational goals. The Aspire Foundation focuses on enhancing access to vocational education and training (VET) and lifelong learning for all corners of the community. Our efforts focus on community-driven projects that target educational access for marginalised groups, tackle barriers to education, training and employment, and equip individuals with essential skills. Since joining the vibrant community at Ross House, we have discovered many wonderful and critical not-for-profit organisations and initiatives within the building. It became clear that we had an opportunity to extend an Aspire Foundation Grant to our resident and friends within Ross House. We were impressed by the quality and variety of submissions and have decided to share the wallet of grant opportunity across three successful applicants.
What is the project?
In their application for the Aspire Foundation Grant, RHA sought resources to support their staff upskilling initiative. This initiative focuses on areas such as cultural safety, diversity and inclusion, conflict management and resolution, marketing and communications, and social media. Additionally, they aim to identify and address other areas for personal development, including leadership training and project management skills.
Why did we approve this grant?
The Aspire Foundation approved this grant for Ross House Association because their mission and initiatives align closely with our values and goals. RHA’s commitment to improving access to upskilling opportunities mirrors our dedication to supporting marginalised communities. Their upskilling initiative will not only enhance the capabilities of their staff but also strengthen their ability to serve and support the community effectively. By funding this project, we are fostering an environment of continuous learning and development, ensuring that RHA staff are well-equipped to tackle the challenges they face and contribute meaningfully to society.
